On 21 August, HAVALH5, Great Wall Motor's SUV-specific brand, was officially launched. The new model comes in six interior trim levels with a price range from 122,800 yuan to 157,800 yuan. It is born on the TANK platform and adopts a frame-type body structure.
Externally, the all-new HAVAL H5 features a new design language that exudes a rugged appeal reminiscent of American hardcore SUVs. The chrome front grille features the HAVAL logo flanked by bold chrome accents, while the clean and functional front fascia design showcases a touch of elegance. Notably, the large polygonal headlight clusters provide the vehicle with a captivating gaze.
On the sides, the new H5 boasts slightly protruding wheel arches that add to the muscular aesthetics, while the sturdy C-pillars and black-painted D-pillars bring it closer to the style of certain American SUVs. The integration of multi-spoke alloy wheels contributes to the sleek appeal of the vehicle.
Moving to the rear, a minimalistic approach defines the design, with vertically aligned taillights connected by a decorative strip, and dual rectangular exhaust outlets at the bottom. Measuring 5,190mm in length, 1,905mm in width, and 1,835mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,140mm, the all-new HAVAL H5 stakes its claim as a large-sized SUV. Further underlining its capability, the vehicle features a 25° approach angle, 22° departure angle, 200mm ground clearance, and a water-wading depth of 600mm.
Inside, the all-new HAVAL H5 offers a balance between traditional ruggedness and modern trends. The model features a floating dashboard and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, retaining a number of physical buttons on the centre console. Noteworthy is its generous cargo space with a maximum depth of 1,965 mm and a volume of 2,116 litres.
Powering the all-new H5 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that delivers a powerful 218 hp (160 kW) in the petrol version, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine has a maximum output of 166 hp (122 kW). The body-on-frame construction consists of a front double-wishbone independent suspension and a rear five-link solid axle suspension, complemented by a part-time four-wheel drive system and an Eaton mechanical differential lock.
