On July 11, the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV officially hit the Chinese market, offering consumers a choice of six variants, including plug-in hybrid models and mild hybrid models with a 48V ISG intelligent motor, with prices ranging from 699,800 yuan to 889,800 yuan.
The newly added dynamic welcome lights illuminate the ground when the car doors are opened. The all-new GLE SUV has dimensions of 4,927/2,018/1,797 mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2,995mm. Its signature yacht-style C-pillar design gives the rugged body a touch of visual elegance.
The interior of the new GLE SUV continues the "Sensual Purity" design language of the Mercedes-Benz family. The Nappa-leather-wrapped multifunctional steering wheel is standard across the lineup, allowing drivers to operate key vehicle functions via touch panels without taking their hands off the wheel.
The air conditioning vent blades have been upgraded to galvanized metal material, inspired by the craftsmanship of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS SUV.
The new GLE SUV comes standard with the Enhanced Driver Assistance package, the second-generation MBUX intelligent human-machine interaction system, and the "Energizing Comfort" function derived from the S-Class sedan.
The Enhanced Driver Assistance package, in conjunction with the Enhanced Pre-Safe system, covers 13 daily usage scenarios from starting to parking. When the high-speed driving assistance system and the turn signal are activated, the new GLE SUV can automatically change lanes under safe conditions.
The second-generation MBUX intelligent human-machine interaction system is more digitized and intelligent than the previous generation. It features built-in applications such as QQ Music and Tencent Video, providing customers with a wealth of streaming media content.
The new GLE 350 4MATIC version is equipped with the M254 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, with a maximum output power of 190 kW and peak torque of 400 N·m. The new GLE 450 4MATIC model, on the other hand, adopts the M256 2.5-liter inline-six-cylinder turbocharged engine, capable of delivering a maximum power of 270 kW and a maximum torque of 500 N·m. Both engines are equipped with a 48V ISG intelligent motor system.
The new GLE 400 e 4MATIC plug-in hybrid SUV carries the fourth-generation plug-in hybrid system, with a combined peak power of 280 kW and a combined peak torque of up to 650 N·m. The range has been increased to 100km (WLTP cycle) on battery power alone.
The new GLE SUV introduces a new "Real-Time Off-Road Surface Imaging" function, which uses cameras to calculate and synthesize virtual images, making the engine hood appear transparent visually. Coupled with virtual wheels and lane lines, it helps drivers intuitively understand the steering angle of the front wheels and choose the best route.
The intelligent 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system on the new GLE SUV can distribute torque between the front and rear axles from 0 to 100% as needed. Combined with the air suspension system, it offers various driving modes to match different travel needs, whether it's urban commuting or off-road adventures.
