According to Reuters, on September 16, the United Auto Workers (UAW) announced that it had filed an unfair labor practice charge against Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, for allegedly violating the labor contract reached between the two parties last fall.

The UAW stated that it filed a lawsuit with the National Labor Relations Board because Stellantis refused to provide information about future product plans. Additionally, the UAW mentioned in a press release that several local union chapters had also lodged complaints against Stellantis for attempting to move Dodge Durango production out of the United States.

Stellantis responded that it had not yet received the relevant documents but emphasized that the company had not violated its investment commitments made in the 2023 contract. "Like all of our competitors, Stellantis works diligently to manage how and when we bring new vehicles to market, focusing on improving competitiveness and ensuring future sustainability and growth. We will communicate our plans to the UAW in due time."

UAW Chairman Shawn Fain has publicly criticized Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares on numerous occasions, accusing him of "mismanagement" that led to a decline in the company's sales and profits, as well as layoffs and production cuts that negatively affected union members. Fain stated, "As a united union, we are determined to enforce our contract and hold Stellantis accountable for its promises."

Fain also pointed out that Stellantis had delayed its multi-billion-dollar investment plan for a new battery plant in Belvidere, Illinois, violating commitments made in the labor agreement signed last year. In August, the UAW announced its readiness to launch a national strike against Stellantis over this and other issues. However, Stellantis maintains that it has not violated its contract with the UAW.

Since the contract was reached last year, Stellantis has laid off some factory workers to cut costs, sparking anger among union officials.
