AVATR 07 leads new cars unveiled at Chengdu Auto Show

   The annual Chengdu Auto Show will officially open on August 30. There are many blockbuster new cars at the 2024 Chengdu Auto Show, and we will continue to bring you the preview of new cars at the auto show. In this issue, we start from the perspective of Chinese brands and joint venture brands. After sorting out, models including Jiyue 07, Zeekr 7X, AVATR 07, Seal 06GT, Xpeng MONA M03, MG S5, the new Haval H9, and Blue Mountain Intelligent Driving Edition will be unveiled and listed. At the same time, joint venture products such as Passat PRO and the new Santa Fe will also be launched and announced. Don't miss it.

　The AVATR 07 applies the AVATR 2.0 design concept, adopting the brand's signature "Future Elegance" design style. The side of the car has smooth body lines, and the slightly sloping roofline design can make it look more dynamic, without the bulky feeling of a medium-sized SUV. At the rear, AVATR 07 adheres to the distinctive design style of AVATR's models, with long and narrow taillight clusters, creating a dry and concise visual effect.
　Body dimensions, the new car's length, width and height are 4825mm * 1980mm * 1620mm, wheelbase 2940mm, wheelbase and size is only a little smaller than AVATR 11, or very close. Compared to the AVATR 11's coupe sport style, the 07 looks relatively traditional.

    Inside, the AVATR 07 comes with a 15.6-inch centre screen and a 35.4-inch 4K all-in-one telematics screen, paired with a flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel and paddle shifters. The AVATR 07 will also be equipped with wireless mobile phone charging, physical key, electronic exterior mirrors, and 25-speaker Britannica stereo.The AVATR 07 comes with dual zero gravity seats with massage and ventilation features for a relaxing ambience. It supports seat linkage features such as one-touch zero gravity, remote activation of heating and ventilation, seat courtesy, backrest anti-pinch, lounge/viewing/hi-hat.

In terms of power, the AVATR 07 will be available in range extender and pure electric versions, with the range extender version equipped with a powertrain consisting of a 1.5T range extender and an electric motor, and available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions.The 1.5T range extender has a maximum power of 115kW; the two-wheel drive version is equipped with a single electric motor with a maximum power of 231kW, and the four-wheel drive version is equipped with a front/rear dual electric motor with a capacity of 131kW and 231kW, with a capacity of 39.05kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack. 39.05kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, corresponding to CLTC pure electric range of 230km (2WD) and 220km (4WD) respectively.

　　The AVATR is currently on sale only as a pure electric model and both are priced above $260,000, which makes the sales of the two cars lukewarm. Looking at the figures, AVATR 12 sold 15,400 units in the first half of the year and Avitar 11 only 5,586 units, which is really not good enough. The launch of the AVATR 07, will be the first time to use extended range power, coupled with the subsequent 11 and 12 to launch extended range power, I believe that can further reduce the purchase threshold of the product. After unveiling the interior in early August, the Jiyue 07 will reach a significant milestone by entering pre-sale at the Chengdu Auto Show at the end of August, with official market launch expected in the third quarter. Positioned as an "automotive robot," the Jiyue 07 is the second mass-produced vehicle from its brand, featuring three different powertrains. The overall size is similar to the Xiaomi SU7.

In terms of appearance, the new car continues the design style of the Jiyue 01, with sleek and smooth lines. The front face adopts a closed design, with Y-shaped front lights providing a strong visual impact. On the side, the car features a coupe-like fastback design. The dimensions of the vehicle are 4953/1989/1475mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 3013mm, similar to the Xiaomi SU7.

As for the interior, the new car adopts an enveloping design style that seamlessly integrates the door panels with the center console. The center console features a three-screen information display system, similar to that of the Jiyue 01, with the left screen showing speed and navigation information, and the middle and right screens likely focused on entertainment. The car uses a half-width steering wheel, and gear shifting is done on the screen, akin to the new Model 3.

In addition, a small screen is provided for rear passengers behind the center console armrest, which is expected to be upgraded from the Jiyue 01, offering more functions like music, air conditioning, and seat heating controls, with charging ports below. Additionally, AI smart headlights, external voice control, and other features are expected to be included.

In terms of power, the Jiyue 07 will offer three powertrain options: a 400V architecture with a single motor for the lower configuration, and an 800V architecture with dual motors producing up to 400kW for the higher configuration.

As a product jointly developed by Baidu and Geely, this car benefits from the strengths of both companies. Geely’s SEA platform gives the vehicle a strong foundation, with a mature powertrain and flexible combinations that can respond quickly to market needs. Baidu's expertise in AI and intelligent cockpit experience, along with its contributions to intelligent driving, are also significant advantages. The main challenges are the relatively weak brand strength and distribution channels, which are closely tied to sales performance. As a direct competitor to the Xiaomi SU7, the Jiyue 07 faces considerable pressure, but if it can attract many potential Model 3 customers, it would be a success. Hopefully, it will offer an impressive and competitive price at the Chengdu Auto Show.

Key Features of the New Car**: Auto Show Debut; Mid-sized Electric SUV; 800V Platform; Competes with Tesla Model Y

The Zeekr 7X has already appeared in the MIIT catalog, and we expect to see the actual vehicle at the Chengdu Auto Show. As the first mid-sized SUV and the second SUV from the Zeekr brand, this car's launch could impact the current landscape of the electric SUV market.

In terms of appearance, the Zeekr 7X adopts the Hidden Energy design language and features the family’s signature full-width smoked combination headlights, making the front look wider and more futuristic. Additionally, the car will be equipped with the newly upgraded ZEEKR STARGATE integrated smart light curtain, offering all-scenario intelligent interactive lighting, further enhancing the sense of technology.

At the rear, it features an integrated tailgate with suspended flow light taillights, utilizing SUPER RED ultra-red LED technology for an impressive visual effect. The hidden rain gutter design provides a clean look that seamlessly integrates the paint with the glass, while also offering waterproof and dustproof benefits. The dimensions of the Zeekr 7X are 4825/1930/1666 (1656) mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2925mm.

The Zeekr 7X comes standard with an 800V high-voltage platform across all models, offering both LFP and NCM battery options. The single-motor version has a maximum power of 310kW, while the dual-motor version delivers 165kW at the front and 310kW at the rear, for a combined maximum power output of 475kW, matching the performance of the Zeekr 007.

In addition to performance and range, the Zeekr 7X is expected to carry over the cabin and intelligent driving configurations from the Zeekr 007, including a 13.02-inch LCD instrument cluster, a 15.05-inch center console, AR-HUD head-up display, 8295 chip, Orin-X intelligent driving chip, and advanced intelligent driving features.

Although only official images of the Zeekr 7X have been released so far, the level of interest is already high. Currently, the best-selling electric SUV is the Tesla Model Y, but starting with the Chengdu Auto Show, several new models will enter the 200,000-350,000 RMB electric SUV market, including the Leado L60, Avatr 07, Zeekr 7X, and Zhijie R7. Each of these models is quite competitive. If you’re not in a hurry to buy a car, it might be worth waiting to see these upcoming models, many of which will be released in Q3-Q4 this year, with the Chengdu Auto Show being the best time to get a glimpse.
