A friend just brought up a
LEAPMOTOR C16 Extended Range Premium Edition. Taking the opportunity to meet up, I also made a brief test drive of this car, and I will share a few real feelings with you next.
Let's start with the driving experience, this car is powered by a rear-mounted motor which has a maximum horsepower of 231 bhp and a maximum torque of 320 Nm, with an official breaking time of 8.46 seconds. It offers two driving modes, Easy and Sport, plus a Custom. In Easy mode, the power output is softer, and the power output feels very much like that of a small-displacement naturally aspirated engine. Switching to Sport mode, the power response is much more direct, and the power output feels very much like that of a 2.0T engine accelerating at full power.
Chassis, the car uses a front MacPherson rear multi-link suspension structure, it is worth mentioning that the wheelbase of the LEAPMOTOR C16 is the same as the wheelbase of the Zero Run C10, which is 2825mm, and the suspension structure is also the same. Therefore, the chassis of the Zero C16 has also received a true transmission from the Stratis Group, and the tuning of the entire chassis appears to be very mature, with sufficient support, but also be able to take into account the comfort, and in the cornering and lane changing, the body following performance is also very good.
The steering is soft, typical of SUVs, and even in sport mode, the steering is not tight, making it suitable for daily driving. Braking performance is excellent, with a linear release of braking power and stronger braking force.
Finally, when it comes to parking, I found that its auto-parking activation is quite sensitive. When I drove the car to the front of a lateral parking space, I put the car into R gear, and the auto-parking interface and the parking space I was going to park in appeared on the screen, so I used the auto-parking function, and the performance was not bad, the parking action was more fluent, and the final parked position was also more standard.
Moving on to the day-to-day experience. Firstly, as a smart car, it is very convenient to lend a car to a friend. When my friend lent me the car, he didn't have the key with him as he used a Bluetooth key himself. After I downloaded the Zero Run App and registered, he was able to operate the vehicle through my mobile phone by sharing the Bluetooth key.
The centre console of the
LEAPMOTOR C16 has a minimalist design, with the buttons integrated into the large centre screen. The chip in the car is Snapdragon 8295P and the car system is developed by Zero Run, but the interface is very much like Huawei's Hongmeng. Because the car machine chip is powerful, so the daily operation is very smooth. Intelligent voice recognition of commands is also very accurate, especially when looking for navigation destinations, and almost all of them can be recognised successfully at once.
The second row of seats in the LEAPMOTOR C16 is not too wide, as it is necessary to leave access to the third row, the second row of seats is quite comfortable, especially the length of the cushion, which was able to fully support my thighs. The second row seats are also well equipped, supporting power adjustments and ventilated and heated seats.
The front of the second row right seat offers a small desk pad for temporary office work in the car, or kids can catch up on homework or something like that.
There is a ceiling-mounted TV at the head of the second row of seats, and it should be noted that it is manually folded; after pressing the on button, the screen pops open a little, and then needs to be manually rotated to the desired angle, and the same applies when closing it.
The third row of space will be more constrained, if the second row occupies a relatively large space, then the third row simply can not sit in the normal people, however, the second row of seats will be adjusted to a more forward position, basically to meet the second row of the case of the second row of the ride, the third row can still be seated, because the third row is also a two-seater, so the lateral space is not bad. The third row excludes the provision of independent air conditioning vents, cup holders are provided on both sides, and USB ports are set on the right side.
A final word on the feel
Overall, the overall experience of the
LEAPMOTOR C16 is quite good, especially the overall driving experience, which is much better than the performance of other second-tier new car makers in its class. The static part of the performance can also take a good score, although the overall space is not big, but it can meet the needs of 6 passengers, and the relevant configuration is also relatively in place. So, when your budget is just in this range, LEAPMOTOR C16 is still worth buying.
