On June 27, Geely Auto officially released the latest generation of "blade-type" lithium iron phosphate batteries - the Aegis Short Blade Battery. According to the plan, the Geely Galaxy E5 will be the first to be equipped with this new battery.
 

When it comes to blade batteries, many are already familiar with them. Before the release of the Aegis Short Blade Battery, BYD's blade battery had already made a significant impact in the domestic power battery industry. Thanks to the characteristics of lithium iron phosphate batteries, blade batteries not only retain the safety and stability advantages of lithium iron phosphate but also improve space utilization and energy density through innovations in volume form, thereby enhancing endurance performance.
 

From a technical standpoint, both the Aegis Short Blade Battery and other blade batteries share similarities. So, what distinguishes the Aegis Short Blade Battery?
 

Firstly, in terms of volume, compared with the long blade battery currently on the market, the Aegis Short Blade Battery uses a shorter blade, with a length of about 580mm, which is approximately 40% shorter than the long blade battery. Since the cell module is shorter, the internal resistance is smaller, and the volume utilization rate is higher. This allows for more flexible arrangements of the short blade battery in groups. According to the official introduction, the Aegis Short Blade Battery can adapt to the needs of different models such as sedans, SUVs, MPVs, and commercial vehicles.
 

Secondly, in terms of energy density, although the Aegis Short Blade Battery is smaller and more flexible, its energy density remains unaffected. According to official data, the energy density of the Aegis Short Blade Battery can reach 192Wh/kg. In comparison, the energy density of BYD's first-generation Long Blade Battery is about 140-150Wh/kg.
 

In terms of charging efficiency, the Aegis Short Blade Battery's fast charging speed can be 1.5 times that of the Long Blade Battery, with an average charging rate of 2.45C. Charging from 10% to 80% SOC takes only 17 minutes and 4 seconds.

Reports indicate that to achieve "military-grade" battery safety levels, the Aegis Short Blade Battery has not only undergone simultaneous puncture tests with 8 steel needles of 5mm diameter, ensuring the battery cell does not smoke, catch fire, or explode, but also used the same battery pack for continuous dynamic seawater corrosion immersion, extreme cold in the plateau, high-frequency scraping, 26-ton overweight reciprocating rolling, single-pack side column collision, flame roasting, and other extreme tests, proving the strength of the Aegis battery in terms of safety.
 

Behind this series of safety test results, in addition to the unique structural design of the Aegis Short Blade Battery and the use of more flexible double-coated diaphragms and heat-resistant coating materials such as alumina, Geely’s upgrades and iterations based on CTB battery body integration technology also play a significant role. These upgrades focus on battery pack frame design, bottom protection, structural protection, accidental thermal runaway prevention, multiple protection of battery cells, and intelligent safety.
 

Currently, although the competition in the domestic new energy vehicle market is becoming increasingly fierce, the competition essentially revolves around technology.
