Side-by-side comparisons are convenient for comparing models in the same class, but for individual model results, a graphic format would be more clear and intuitive. In this post, I will introduce the analysis of the results of the Sterra ET2024 Extended Range 200 Pro+ (hereinafter referred to as Sterra ET) in the three programmes of feeder acceleration, high-speed feeder fuel consumption, and the 1,000km extreme range challenge.
Electric Feed Acceleration
The power system of the Exeed sterra et consists of a 1.5T engine and a single rear motor, with maximum power and torque of 195 kW and 324 N·m respectively. Just from these parameters, it's clear that this vehicle's performance isn't particularly strong. When the battery is fully charged, its 0-100 km/h acceleration takes as long as 7.70 seconds, which isn't fast for a new energy vehicle. When feeding on electricity, it achieves a shocking "zero to one hundred" in 13.73 seconds, a decrease of 6.03 seconds compared to full charge, with acceleration capability reduced by as much as 44%. It truly embodies the saying, "With power, it's a dragon; without, a worm."
High-Speed Electric Feed Fuel Consumption
On the high-speed circuit of the test track, we conducted a high-speed electric feed fuel consumption test covering approximately 240 km over 2 hours for each vehicle. Before the test, the vehicle's battery was depleted to the point where the engine was forcibly started. After refueling, the Exeed sterra et, starting with 9% battery, traveled 243.1 km at an average speed of 119.2 km/h. It consumed a total of 23.02 liters of gasoline, resulting in a measured fuel consumption of 9.47 L/100 km. Additionally, the displayed battery charge rose to 34%, indicating significant regeneration.
1000 km Ultimate Range Challenge
The Exeed sterra et boasts a combined CLTC range of 1518 km when fully fueled and charged. Can it really go the distance? Let's put it to the test. Starting with a full charge and a full tank of gas, and set to hybrid power mode and comfort driving mode, the Exeed sterra et drove for 14.47 hours and covered 1162.0 km before stopping. It achieved an average speed of 80.3 km/h. During refueling, it consumed a total of 70 liters of gasoline. Calculating at a gasoline price of 7.85 CNY per liter and an electricity price of 1.2242 CNY per kWh, the Exeed sterra et achieves a comprehensive travel cost of only 0.51 CNY per kilometer, ranking third among the ten vehicles tested, behind only the Lynk & Co 08 at 0.49 CNY and the BYD Tang new energy at 0.50 CNY.
Overall Summary
This summarizes the performance of the Exeed sterra et in this unconventional evaluation project. With only a single rear motor, it pleasantly surprises with its fuel consumption performance, achieving a comprehensive travel cost of only 0.51 CNY per kilometer, which is quite impressive for a 2.2-ton mid-sized SUV. However, in terms of acceleration capability, the 7.7-second "zero to one hundred" when fully charged is acceptable, but the 13.73-second result on electric feed is truly disappointing, highlighting the significant impact of battery charge on driving experience. As a two-wheel-drive SUV, the Exeed sterra et is best suited for urban driving rather than off-road excursions. If you prioritize performance and off-road capabilities less and have charging facilities at home, then the Exeed sterra et is indeed a suitable choice.
