An article tells you how many years the battery of an electric car can be used
1. Cycle life of power battery
First, let's talk about the cycle life of power battery. What does cycle life mean? It means the number of complete charge and discharge cycles that a battery can undergo before it decays to a certain degree.
At present, my country's mandatory standard stipulates that when the number of cycles of the power battery of an electric car reaches 1,000, the capacity decay is not less than 80% of the initial capacity. This is the passing line. In this regard, the number of cycles of lithium iron phosphate batteries should be higher, which means a longer life. At room temperature of 25°, the cycle life of lithium iron phosphate batteries can reach 2,000-3,000 times or even higher.
Some people say that it's only 1,000 times. I charge it every day when I go home. Wouldn't it be a thousand times in less than 3 years? Then don't I have to change the battery? You still don't understand what cycle life is. A complete cycle is from 0 to 100%, and a half cycle is from 0 to 50%. You charge it every day when you go home. Do you use up all the electricity every time? If you only charge 10% of the battery every day, then charging 10 times is considered a complete cycle.
Of course, this life span only includes electric vehicles in the past two years. Electric vehicles in previous years are far from reaching this cycle life. Because the battery technology at that time was not mature, basically the battery life of a few hundred charging cycles was not durable, and those electric vehicles had a short range, which means that the same mileage has more charging cycles.
2. Mileage life of a pure electric vehicle
Based on the current range of electric vehicles, if we assume that an electric vehicle can run 400 kilometers with a full charge, 1,000 cycles means a life span of 400,000 kilometers. Even if it is discounted by 20%, it is still 320,000 kilometers. How many years will it take for an ordinary family to drive 320,000 kilometers? Even if you run 20,000 kilometers a year, it can be used for 16 years. In addition, even if it reaches 1,000 charge and discharge cycles, the battery is not scrapped immediately, but the capacity decays by 20%.
However, this also reminds us that if you run a lot of mileage every day, try to buy an electric car with a large battery capacity and a long range to reduce the number of charging and endurance. As for online ride-hailing, it is unrealistic to drive a battery until it is scrapped because of the long mileage. It is inevitable to replace the battery every few years.
In short, at this stage, you can buy an electric car because of the long charging time and the serious reduction in endurance due to low temperature and high speed, but there is no need to veto it because of the battery life issue. Data and standards can prove all this. At this stage, electric vehicles have many shortcomings, but electric vehicles are still developing rapidly and the future is promising.
