What is the difference between a load-bearing car body and a non-load-bearing car body?
First of all, the load-bearing car body does not have an independent chassis frame. It is composed of a body structure and car shell parts. The body structure not only bears the weight of the whole vehicle, but also is responsible for the safety of the vehicle, because large car parts such as the engine, gearbox, suspension, etc. are directly installed on the body structure, and these body structures composed of high-strength steel cables not only have good load-bearing capacity, but also have the ability to resist external impact on the vehicle.
Since the load-bearing car body is one-piece and has no chassis frame, the produced car is not only simpler to assemble, but also has a lower weight and height as well as a lower center of gravity when driving.
The advantages are fuel saving, low center of gravity, good control, more stable high-speed driving and more convenient for members to get on and off the car; the disadvantage is that it is low from the ground, not only the vehicle's passability is relatively poor, but also the sound from the wheels and the road surface is relatively obvious, and strong sound insulation treatment is required.
The non-load-bearing car body is composed of a chassis frame and a body, and the two separate parts are flexibly connected by rubber cushions or springs. The chassis frame carries the weight of the engine, transmission suspension and the entire vehicle body. Since the chassis frame and the vehicle body are separated, the chassis frame can protect the vehicle body when it is hit by external impact. In addition, the noise generated by the tires and the road surface during driving is not so obvious in the car. However, the weight of the non-load-bearing body is heavy, so the fuel consumption of the produced models is also much higher.
For example: the load-bearing body is like the body of a beetle, and it is the body that bears a greater responsibility; while the non-load-bearing body is more like the body of an elephant, and it is the skeleton that bears the main responsibility.
For this reason, the load-bearing body is also only suitable for small vehicles, such as ordinary cars that are common around us. Large cars, off-road vehicles, trucks and buses use the form of non-load-bearing bodies.
In short, the difference between load-bearing bodies and non-load-bearing bodies is not only the difference in design, but also the difference in the use of the vehicle model.
