There is a strange phenomenon in the domestic auto market. The more popular a car is, the easier it is to be "spoiled". Not only do netizens "spray", but car companies also openly "fire" with each other. Lei Jun complained publicly some time ago, "Everyone is looking at Xiaomi SU7 with a magnifying glass. We are under great pressure." This is not the case with BYD. However, BYD's new cars are transforming, becoming more refined and technically more mature, leaving everyone unable to find anything to "spoil" about. Today we are going to talk about Qin L, who has more than 100,000 yuan. He wants to criticize BYD, but I'm sorry, I have no chance!
● Where BYD was once criticized, this time it is focused on innovation
In 2021, with the launch of BYD DM-i technology, BYD Qin PLUS DM-i officially debuted. That year, Nissan Sylphy was the sales champion in the Chinese passenger car market. But in the following years, things changed. From 2020 to 2023, BYD's sales achieved leapfrog progress, with 426,972 vehicles, 730,093 vehicles, 1,868,543 vehicles, and 3,024,417 vehicles. In April this year, BYD Qin PLUS DM-i sold 46,314 units per month, completely taking over Sylphy's championship position.
Qin PLUS DM-i has become a dark horse in terms of sales. In addition to BYD's new technology, it is also related to price cuts. In 2023, BYD launched the Qin PLUS DM-i Champion Edition with a starting price of 99,800 yuan, with the slogan "same price for oil and electricity". In 2024, BYD launched the Qin PLUS DM-i Honor Edition with a starting price of 79,800 yuan, with the slogan "electricity is lower than oil". The mission of Qin PLUS DM-i is to seize more markets for fuel vehicles by lowering prices to compete with the increasingly preferential fuel vehicles. Jiyue CEO Xia Yiping once said, "Price reduction is a return to the product value itself." Technology costs continue to drop, allowing Qin PLUS DM-i to be cheaper. At the same time, Qin L will be positioned higher than Qin PLUS DM-i and introduce new technologies.
In the BYD Dynasty family, after the Qin PLUS DM-i Honor Edition entered the price range of 80,000-120,000 yuan, the Han DM-i Honor Edition entered the price range of 170,000-220,000 yuan, and the price range of 120,000-170,000 yuan appeared. Qin L just fills this gap, and its price may be between 120,000 and 150,000 yuan. The relationship between Qin L and Qin PLUS is a complementary relationship, not a substitute relationship.
In the past, people complained most about BYD because of its excessive design and lack of family style. But now BYD's new products are easier to distinguish whether they come from Haiyang.com or Dynasty.com. The family characteristics of each model are more obvious. This time, Qin L's design did not leave any more opportunities for everyone to complain.
"Qin L"
The exterior design style of Qin L is very similar to that of Han EV, with similar grilles, headlights, and Chinese knot-style taillights. The overall design is simple and grand, and even the design ideas of the China Open coincide with the new Volkswagen Passat PRO, but this time Qin L's design is obviously more pleasing to the eye. The English Slogan "Build your dream" on the rear of the vehicle also disappeared from the vehicle, replaced by BYD's new logo. This time BYD really listened!
The interior shows a new minimalist design style, emphasizing pragmatism, and there are no longer incomprehensible personalized designs. From this point of view, it is more like a Sylphy or Corolla, which can be accepted by consumers of all ages and has a wider audience.
There are no new functions added to the buttons around the steering wheel and gear handle, but the texture of the crystal gear handle and buttons has been significantly improved, and the interfaces of the instrument panel and central control screen have also been optimized. However, the screen will still have different sizes depending on the configuration, DiLink smart cockpit.
"Comparison of space between Qin L and Seal 06"
In terms of model size, Qin L is 65mm longer than Qin PLUS, 63mm wider, and 72mm longer in wheelbase, which also makes it jump from a compact car to a mid-size car. In terms of space experience, the overall performance of the seating space in the car is acceptable, but it does not show a particularly significant improvement. The main and passenger seats are electrically adjustable, equipped with heating and ventilation, and the lateral width of the trunk is significantly increased.
From Qin, Qin Pro, Qin PLUS, and Qin L, we have witnessed the evolution of BYD. I don’t know if you still remember the Qin back then, which had an incomprehensible taillight design, an exaggerated blue interior, and densely packed buttons with Chinese characters. Of course, there are also impressive configurations, such as electric steering wheel adjustment, seat heating + ventilation, panoramic imaging, remote control parking, electronic handbrake, and in-car TV. There is also the hybrid technology that BYD has always been proud of. The Qin, which was equipped with the second-generation DM dual-mode technology, could travel 50km on pure electric power and accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds.
It was already 10 years ago, and today we see that BYD has made huge progress in design, product quality, driving quality, and hybrid technology, and has even entered the European market. The price of the Qin family has also moved from 189,800 to 209,800 yuan that year to a more affordable price range.
So Qin L’s king is the DM5.0 new generation hybrid technology system + new generation plug-in hybrid dedicated platform, as well as new chassis suspension, which will make up for the lack of power in some working conditions of DM4.0 in the past, and it will show better performance. Good power performance, more economical and fuel-saving, longer overall battery life, and a more comfortable driving experience.
Although BYD will not release the DM5.0 system until a press conference on May 28, BYD's latest hybrid system patent disclosed from the National Patent Office has revealed relevant details in advance. Compared with the current DM-i technology (single-gear series-parallel structure of P1+P3), the new hybrid system has major changes: first, the motor output passes through the planetary gear reduction mechanism, and second, a dual clutch is used to control the power flow. .
The new system supports series extended range, dual motor pure electric, single motor pure electric, dual motor + engine parallel output modes. Due to the use of dual clutches, compared with DM-i, the new system adds a dual-motor pure electric mode to further enhance the power performance output in pure electric mode. At the same time, because it can achieve parallel output of dual motors + engines, the system power and torque are greater, and 0-100km/h acceleration is faster. The entire system is smaller and lighter. Hybrid-specific engines, electric hybrid systems, blade batteries, etc. will also be comprehensively improved. All improvements added up will lead to technological iterations.
According to the latest data, BYD Qin L is expected to achieve a range of 2,000km on full fuel and full battery. It will be equipped with a hybrid system combining a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine and an electric motor, with a maximum engine power of 74 kilowatts. The low-end version is equipped with a 10.08kWh battery, a 120kW motor, a pure electric cruising range of 80km under CLTC conditions, and a fuel consumption of 3.8L/100km. The high-end version is equipped with a 15.874kWh battery, a maximum motor power of 160kW, a pure electric range of 120km under CLTC conditions, and a fuel consumption of 3.98L/100km. Compared with the Qin PLUS model, the fuel consumption of the feeder is significantly reduced, so it can achieve a longer comprehensive battery life. Unfortunately, according to the real cars we showed in the store, only the high-end version has fast charging and slow charging interfaces, while the low-end version only has a slow charging interface.
Compared with the Qin PLUS model, the pure electric range of the entry-level model has been significantly increased. At the same time, despite the larger body size, the feed fuel consumption has become lower, and the vehicle cost will be significantly reduced.
In addition, thanks to the new platform architecture, Qin L uses front MacPherson independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension. Compared with Qin PLUS's rear torsion beam non-independent suspension, it shows a heavy and heavy driving feel. It feels and high-end, and the lateral support also performs well (Qin L has not yet tested it, please refer to the test driving experience of its brother model Seal 06). However, the new car is equipped with domestically produced Chaoyang tires or Linglong tires, which are relatively common, proving that the new car is still a family car. The new car is also equipped with DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system, including adaptive cruise, intelligent pilot, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, etc.
